Half-year results: Online SMB sales remain strong

Uncategorized @en_gb

ePages study reveals the increasing importance of year-end sales going into 2021

The coronavirus pandemic and imposed lockdowns throughout Europe are having important ramifications for all merchants. While changes in consumer behaviour pose major challenges to brick-and-mortar businesses and adding pressure on them to digitalise their stores, increased digital interactions present new opportunities for shop owners. A representative study with anonymised data from European online shops conducted by ePages, one of the leading providers of online shop software in the cloud, compares sales results in 2019 and 2020 and highlights an upward trajectory of online sales for SMBs going into 2021.

Extensive preparation for the year-end sales period is absolutely worth it

A review of data gathered from 25,000 ecommerce shops across Europe shows the rising significance of year-end sales for merchants. Taken into consideration was data from brand-new online shops with little to no sales up to established online businesses with 6-digit revenues, totalling 260 million Euros in the last quarter of 2020. Compared to the average month of September, 2020 online sales ramped up 29.9% in October and surged 83.8% in November, including Black Friday & Cyber Monday.

Online sales remain strong going into 2021

A comparison of sales in the second half of 2019 and 2020 from another dataset of representatively selected online shops across Europe confirmed that the upward trend in 2020 extended into December. Following the exceptionally substantial Black Friday & Cyber Monday online sales in November, which marked an increase of 22% compared to the previous year, sales remained strong, with December 2020 sales rising 30% year-on-year. Overall, sales in the last quarter of 2020 were up 47% compared to Q3 of the same year.

Wilfried Beeck, CEO of ePages, says: “In the public perception, Amazon appears to be the main winner of the Corona crisis. In reality, however, small online stores are also receiving significantly more orders than they did in the previous year. Due to imposed lockdowns in physical retail, the trend continued until Christmas and beyond.”

ePages rated best online shop solution among 40 platforms

Uncategorized @en_gb

The study “Professional User Rating 2021: Digital Solutions” puts ePages in the first place

Hamburg, 15 October 2020 – ePages, one of the leading providers of online shop software in the cloud, was named the best online shop platform by the study “Professional User Rating: Digital Solutions 2021”, in which 40 platforms were considered. Within the scope of the independent study, 1,500 users in the German-speaking market have been surveyed on digital solutions in over 60 categories, for example in terms of range of features and user friendliness. Among other online shop platforms including Shopify, Shopware and Adobe Magento, ePages comes out on top as the champion.

techconsult, the independent market research company of the Heise Group, has conducted the study to investigate the satisfaction of users with their online shop solution. Both in the solution and the provider ratings, ePages has ranked first place and was named as champion. In the provider rating, ePages scored especially well in the categories of sales partner network, innovation and online presence. In the solution rating, ePages achieved good to very good ratings across the board in the surveyed criteria. Users were particularly impressed by the simple administration, modern design and range of functions. When asked whether users would recommend the solution to others, ePages was the only platform to receive 5 of 5 stars.

Wilfried Beeck, CEO of ePages, says: “We have often been rated very favourably in expert comparisons. But the PUR study stands out as it is based on evaluations from real users. This is much more practical than the sometimes superficial comparisons by functionality. We are therefore extremely proud of the fact that we have been rated as the best platform here. Continuous feedback from our users, which has been incorporated into product development over many years, has made a significant contribution to this.”

Further information about the study, including a comparison of the best online shop platforms, is available at epages.com/pur2021.

ePages initiative “stayopen” supports small physical businesses in times of crisis

Hamburg, 26 March 2020 – ePages, one of the leading providers of online shop software in the cloud, wants to help brick-and-mortar merchants in the coronavirus crisis with free online shops so that they can keep running their business. Small shop owners have the option of creating their own free online shop to mitigate the economic consequences of the current situation while their customers can continue to order safely from home. The service will remain free of charge at least until the end of June and beyond if the regulations on shop closures persist, or if risk groups still need to be protected.

The measures against the coronavirus, which include the closure of brick-and-mortar shops, pose major challenges for the retail sector. “Brick-and-mortar retailers are particularly affected by the corona crisis, especially small shop owners,” says Wilfried Beeck, founder and CEO of ePages. “While online trade is booming, physical retail is partly fighting for its existence. We have brought partners with a resilient infrastructure on board, so that we can immediately provide a quick solution for thousands of merchants.” The “stayopen” initiative is supported by many international ePages partners. In Germany, leading payment service provider Payone, the joint venture of the Ingenico Group and Deutscher Sparkassenverlag, and VR Payment, the payment organisation of the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken, and Worldline/SIX Payment Services, in Switzerland the largest hosting provider Hostpoint, in France Box e-commerce, in Spain Hostalia, in Finland the Vilkas Group, in Australia eCorner and in Portugal Dominios have joined the initiative so far.
